Forgot to pick up extra shear pins so the first post hole got finished the old fashioned way. I’ll buy a gross of them tomorrow hahaha – fuckin’ Missouri bedrock a foot deep…
The bucket sure makes it easy to haul a barrel of water up from the spring and getting wood to the house from the back 40 will be a breeze. I already have a plow, and when silver hits 25 bucks an oz. I’ll cash a stash and pick up a 4 foot tiller attachment and find some old crappy discs and a chain drag at an implement auction. We’s farmin’ now!
I’ve had my boy on it several times, just walking alongside of him walking him through the process. I think it will help make him feel like he is as much a part of this homestead as I am – equal work, equal share. Might keep him from running off to the big city if they still exist 10 years from now.

Don’t you love it when a plan comes together? Man, you sure worked your butt off for this machine. Damn handy though.
My buddy picked up a medium sized New Holland and uses the beast all the time. Only regrets not getting the backhoe attachment first thing. I’m glad he has a trailer that can haul it to my house.
What’s nice is when you get one of those farm emergencies that crop up from time to time. It’ll occur to you that you’ve got a tractor and can use a machine to fix the sudden problem. Your back will thank you.

It seems that if you keep your eyes on the goal that stuff like this comes along at the right time. As much as I try to live in the 1800s whenever possible, it makes sense to empower yourself with the tools that can move you ahead. I generally run around the place doing repairs with hand saws and the like not wanting to waste the time to get power to some remote corner of the place to cut two boards, but an extension on the barn, and the need to finish the siding on the house made a sliding miter saw just the ticket for me this summer.
Looks like you will be taking care of big messes in short order. Seems to be the order of the day.

Congratulations on the tractor, looks like the perfect size. The post hole auger will be nice. I hear you when it comes to digging holes and rocks. I’ve been digging holes for fruit trees the old fashioned way, some of the holes are at least 1/3 rocks. Also where I’m at we have hard pan which is kind of like digging through concrete.

Nice machine. I got a Century 35 horse a few years ago {no parts available!!}. Be safe, I repeat be safe! I can tell you stories about over-confidence with this much power, and how you can get hurt {or get others hurt} real easy. Just be careful and no passengers, ever.
Use it while you can, to build what you can’t later on. Hopefully you will have several years…
