Went to a meet up with some people from the latoc board this weekend. Six or seven “households” were represented within a 50 mile or so radius of Springfield, Missouri. We all showed up at 11am and just ate and talked until 6:30. Discussion ranged from bread making and herbal remedies all the way through the neighbors and families to 9/11 conspiracies. Oddly enough, as we were packing up to go we realized guns and ammo never came up. There is more to making the transition to a post petroleum world than defending against MZBs
What a relief to spend an afternoon talking with people who aren’t bitching about the economy or the price of gas. We know it’s going to shit and what we’re doing about it is the important thing. Leave the wailing and moaning to others. No political crap either – neither side of the dog and pony show can accomplish anything but more of the same. Nuances such as who’s most likely to fire nukes or declare martial don’t even matter – it’ll happen when “they” want it to happen and in the meantime gotta figure out how to keep the varmints out of the chicken coop. And you don’t get to chat about that in line at the mall food court.
Doomers are people, too. Ordinary on the outside, but strong and diverse within. It’s just that 100+ miles between me and the straw bale house guy. There’s just not enough of us… yet.

Comrade — how cool! Just found your website today (6/24) linked to latoc! Good to see you in person…I can “hear” you when I read your blog.
You’re right — doomers ‘are just people too’. Gotta do that meetup thing again while we can all still afford to fill our gas tanks….
